Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions (part time or full time) in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The positions will be located at Westmead and Auburn Hospitals within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

 

The successful applicants will hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) or equivalent. The successful applicants will have broad experience across obstetrics and gynaecology at a tertiary centre, above average clinical skills and judgement, and superior interpersonal skills.

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship 6 within months of the planned commencement date for the positions may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

    Selection Criteria

     

    §   Must possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

    §   Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

    o   Must have a high level of obstetrics and gynaecology experience in a large, complex tertiary service, have significant experience in the care of women from many cultures and backgrounds, have excellent clinical judgement and be able to manage multiple complex cases simultaneously in order to practice at a high level of clinical skills have at least laparoscopy Level 3 surgical skills as per RANZCOG definition.

    o   Have obstetric ultrasound skills above the level of the generalist O&G specialist. The successful applicant will play a key role in the support and ongoing development of the EPAC (Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic) and gynaecologic ultrasound services and teaching.

    o   Must be supportive of planned vaginal breech birth under selected circumstances.

    o   Must be prepared to make a meaningful contribution to a positive and harmonious workplace culture, have a demonstrated ability to take on a leadership role and be prepared to contribute to Clinical Governance activities within the O&G service.

    o   Must be prepared to provide occasional leave relief to other consultants, as required by the Head of Department

    o   Must have demonstrated capability to provide safe, high-quality O&G care to women of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

    o   Must be prepared to participate in both formal and informal supervisory, support and mentorship roles for Junior Medical Officers pursuing a variety of career pathways in reproductive women’s health.

    o   Must demonstrate familiarity with research concepts and be prepared to be involved in the research output of the department including aiding other staff in their research endeavours and must be prepared to make a contribution to the education of registrars, residents and midwives/ nurses including, on occasion, outside normal working hours.

    §   Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.

    §   Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:

    o   Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.

    o   commitment to self -care and personal development.

    o   Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.

    o   Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.

    §   Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks.

    §   Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
