Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position(s) will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Successful applicants will provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services for optimal patient outcomes.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology (Endoscopy Services).

Candidates should have a sound clinical knowledge in Gastroenterology and Hepatology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position as well as skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner.

Evidence of appropriate training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology as well as evidence of Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) certification in gastroscopy and Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA) re-certification in colonoscopy is required. 

Westmead Hospital is a large quarternary teaching hospital in Western Sydney.  The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology offers a full range of acute inpatient and outpatient care, including endoscopy and advanced interventional endoscopy as well as ERCP and EUS. 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

2. Sound clinical knowledge in Gastroenterology and Hepatology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Evidence of specialty training in Gastroenterology.

 

Applicants must have RACP Fellowship/Specialist Registration

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award or the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

Selection Criteria

1.    Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.

2.    Sound clinical knowledge in Gastroenterology and Hepatology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Evidence of specialty training in Gastroenterology.

3.    Evidence of Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) certification in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.  Evidence of Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA) re-certification or eligibility for re-certification in colonoscopy or equivalent qualification.

4.    Evidence of additional qualifications, Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

5.    Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

a.    Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.

b.    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

c.     Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.

d.    Commitment to maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.

e.    Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.

6.    Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.

7.    Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks

8.    Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position
