Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located in the Department of Cardiology at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals.

 

Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals are recruiting for a Visiting Medical Officer in Cardiology with subspecialty training in electrophysiology and device implantation. The cardiology department is growing with the local population and provides the opportunity for clinical work, research and teaching.

 

Successful applicants will be fully trained cardiologists with subspecialty training in electrophysiology and device implantation, involving at a minimum an appropriately recognised skill base by CSANZ guidelines and maintenance of competency as per CSANZ 2017 guidelines.

 

Overseas experience would be an advantage as would experience working in culturally diverse public hospital setting with demonstrated appreciation of the challenges of such work.

 

Applicants are expected to have been awarded their Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and to have completed a dedicated fellowship in electrophysiology and device implantation. 

 

Completion of a higher research degree PHD or Masters is desirable and ongoing evidence of current commitment to research and teaching is essential.

 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1.    Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license.

2.    Dedicated fellowship in electrophysiology and device implantation as per CSANZ 2017 guidelines: Guidelines for sub-specialty training in Adult Cardiac Clinical Electrophysiology and Guidelines for advanced sub-specialty training in Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs): selection, implantation and follow-up.

3.    Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority Radiation license.

4.    Completion of a higher research degree PHD or Masters is desirable and ongoing evidence of current commitment to research and teaching is essential.

 

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Western Sydney. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the Network for clinical matters.

 

The number of sessions will be 1-2.5 lab sessions per week, on call roster duties, ward rounds and device clinic reporting at Blacktown Hospital.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

    4.    Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:

    o   Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.

    o   Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.

    o   Results and outcome focused.

    5.    Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks.

    6.    Experience working in culturally diverse public hospital setting with demonstrated appreciation of the challenges of such work.

    7.    Demonstrated ability and commitment to teach cardiology advanced trainees, EP/pacing technicians, nursing staff, basic physician medical trainees and medical students.
