About this role:

We are looking for an experienced Planning and Policy Officer to d
evelop and support the implementation of best practice planning, policies, programs, projects, and activities for the Ministry of Health, public health organisations, and related government agencies and provide policy advice to support the achievement of NSW Health’s objectives in relation to service and capital planning. Ideally, you will have first-hand experience in policy development and a clear understanding of government processes such as Cabinet processes and responses, the annual Budget preparation cycle and the development of detailed briefings for Executive and Ministers.

Where you'll be working:

Working with an enthusiastic team of dedicated health professionals within the Service and Capital Planning Unit you will be part of a small team to ensure that Health’s Capital Requirements are managed in such a way to ensure the maximum benefit for the community of NSW. The Service and Capital Planning Unit within the Strategic Reform and Planning Branch oversees the Ministry’s Capital Works Program which currently stands at $10.1billion over the next four years with a program of $2.9 billion in 2019-2020. .


What you'll be doing:

  • Manage and undertake policy and program development, review and evaluation of projects for the Ministry of Health, and related government agencies to address current and emerging issues in relation to service and capital planning.
  • Provide advice and support to Branch Directors, Senior Executives, and staff across NSW Health and the Ministry of Health to consistently interpret and apply policies and practices in relation to service and capital planning.
  • Prepare high quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy, discussion papers, or circulars to inform, respond to requests, or initiate consideration of new policy initiatives.
  • Liaise, communicate, and consult with key staff in public health organisations and stakeholder representatives to secure their engagement and ensure effective interface on policy and program development, planning and implementation.
  • Lead and participate in quantitative and qualitative research to address policy issues and inform policy development.
