Senior Policy Officer, Enterprise, Office for Health and Medical Research

About this role
We are looking for a high performing Senior Policy Officer to join the Enterprise Team, Office for Health and Medical Research.

The Enterprise Team manages programs and policies that support the NSW health and medical technology sector to develop and commercialise research to create healthier communities and deliver better patient care.

The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for program management for the Office for Health and Medical Research’s Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Central Support Service. This includes a range of projects and policy development supporting clinicians, researchers, managers and executives in NSW Public Health Organisations with health research intellectual property and commercialisation. The Senior Policy Officer also manages projects focused on connection NSW Health research innovations with private sector investment opportunities.

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $129,464 - $142,665 p.a. plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

What you'll be doing 
In this role, you will:

  • Plan, prepare, maintain and review program and project management documentation across the program
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support program delivery, through communication, negotiation, and issue management
  • Undertake research and analysis, identifying trends and preparing project briefs to support informed decision-making and planning
  • Mentor and guide others in the team with a focus on continuous improvement and regular constructive feedback
  • Develop and implement revisions to NSW Health’s policy on intellectual property arising from health research, including stakeholder consultation and communication
  • Manage an Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Supplier Panel, including planning and delivering procurement processes and triaging, assessing and managing requests for support
  • Manage the escalation and resolution of complex queries and issues within the Office and with relevant subject matter experts
  • Develop and implement a centralised governance committee for intellectual property assessment and advice
  • Communicate key information about the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation Central Support Service and related issues in stakeholder presentations and information sessions
  • Manage a contract with an external stakeholder focused on connection NSW Health research innovations with private sector investment opportunities, including compliance and considerations for future funding.


You may also have opportunities to support complementary projects across the team and Office for Health and Medical Research.

About you 
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Substantial proven experience in project and/or policy development and management
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to tailor communications on complex issues to a variety of audiences
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience, including consultation and management of complex relationships throughout projects
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, handling highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small dynamic team environment and manage your own workload
  • Ability to quickly understand new tasks or subject matter and respond effectively to shifting workloads and time-critical priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and manage risks and issues
  • Experience with government procurement and contract management processes
  • Knowledge of the health and medical research and translation system, and intellectual property issues, is an advantage but not essential.
