What you'll be doing
Performance of routine Histopathology laboratory procedures (including procedures relating to the biopsy and autopsy service). These laboratory procedures include routine tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and staining, frozen sections, special stains, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence/ISH, digital photography, and molecular techniques. Participation in quality assurance procedures and contribution to in-service education. This position will need to participate in rotational after-hours on-call roster.
  1. Bachelor of Science Degree, or higher, in Biomedical/Medical Science or an equivalent qualification with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
  2. Experience in a diagnostic Histopathology Laboratory including immunohistochemistry and cytology preparation.
  3. Ability to work as part of a team and perform tasks independently.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  5. Experience with preparation and screening of cytology specimens
  6. Experience in the grossing of small low-complexity biopsies / surgical specimens for histopathology.
  7. Willingness to work with body parts and perform mortuary duties
  8. Experience with pathology laboratory information systems and quality systems.
