What you'll be doing
The NSW Biochemical Genetics Service is a Statewide Reference Laboratory for the investigation and management of patients with inborn errors of metabolism (genetic metabolic disorders).  Our testing is based not on DNA analysis, but primarily on assay of metabolites, the biochemical processing of which are disturbed by the genetic defect. This position involves all tasks, including technical, clerical and computer based, associated with analysis of body fluids and tissues. 
The techniques and instrumentation used in the laboratory include liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis, UV spectroscopy, colorimetry and tissue culture methods.
  1. Bachelor of science (BSc) degree in biochemistry, biotechnology or equivalent as a major subject.
  2. Experience with laboratory methods including mass spectrometry
  3. Ability to work in a team environment
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Aptitude for work in a diagnostic laboratory.
  6. Demonstrated interest in the field of human genetics.
  7. Computing skills including MS Office applications and PathNet laboratory information system.
  8. Enthusiasm and versatility in scientific problem-solving.
