Public Health Partnerships & Initiatives (Vulnerable Groups)
Public Health Unit

About the role
This role will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of public health programs for Western NSW & Far West Local Health Districts.

Our Public Health Unit (PHU) aims to improve the health of Aboriginal people and other vulnerable groups and hard to reach groups (people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQI+ and homeless people).

This role is to lead the strategic partnerships and initiatives with the multiple internal and external stakeholders across the Local Health Districts.

The position will also support the operational work of the PHU in regards to outbreak investigation and control, emergency management and operational research with a focus on Aboriginal people and other vulnerable groups.

Life at Western NSW Local Health District is rewarding, progressive and diverse.

At Western NSW Local Health District, we have built a collaborative, people-focused culture. Our vision, Healthier Rural People - Thriving Communities, provides a benchmark for our partnership and leadership approach to improving the health and wellbeing of people living in regional and remote areas of New South Wales.

The role of the Public Health Unit is to identify, prevent and minimise public health risks to the community: these risks may be infectious, chemical or radiological in nature. They may be caused by other humans, by animals and by the inanimate environment.

Public health staff work closely with general practitioners, community nurses and hospital-based clinicians, pathology laboratories, schools and childcare centres, with local councils and with other government agencies to protect the public health. The team also respond to complaints from the public concerning significant risks to public health.
