The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has a great opportunity for a passionate skilled allied health assistant to join our highly skilled team working in a diverse caseload in our industrial workshop and allied health department. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing, customising and assisting children with a wide range of orthopaedic, neurological, spinal and rehab related conditions. The Orthotics department consists of an experienced and dynamic team of 16 staff, with an on-site manufacturing facility incorporating advanced CADCAM technology alongside a traditional plaster room.

What you'll be doing
The Allied Health Assistant (Orthotic) provides technical assistance to orthotists and the  manufacture of a range of orthotic and related devices for patients referred to the  Orthotics Department and through participation in the Orthotics team, works towards  the achievement of the mission, philosophy and objectives of the Orthotics Department.  

The normal hours of operation are from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday. On  occasion may work outside of these times in special circumstance or in the case of an  emergency. May also on occasion be required to attend to assist on home visits, other  facilities or outreach services.
  1. Any certificate III level technical qualification and applicant must be willing to undergo further on the job training
  2. An interest in making things along with a focus on the quality and efficiency of your work
  3. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment
  4. Existing knowledge or experience in technical activities may be an advantage. This might include any one of the following: use of hand tools, workshop machinery, leather work, welding, plastic moulding or other technical or manufacturing skills
  5. Prior work experience and/or training as an orthotic/prosthetic technical assistant may also be an advantage.
