The Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) is seeking one Permanent Full-Time Family Clinician to join the Whole Family Team (WFT) in delivering specialist interventions aimed at the recovery and ongoing safety and wellbeing of families involved with the child protection system. This is an exciting opportunity for motivated and skilled clinicians to support families affected by mental health, drug and alcohol issues, and experiences of violence, abuse, or neglect. Working closely with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), health services, and non-government agencies, you will help ensure that children can safely remain with their families through effective, trauma-informed care.

In your role as a Family Clinician, you will provide a range of clinical services to families where the risk of significant harm has been identified. This includes conducting comprehensive assessments of social, psychological, and environmental issues affecting family functioning and developing tailored intervention plans in collaboration with clinical leads. You will be responsible for ensuring that treatment and interventions are culturally safe, evidence-based, and aligned with the relevant guidelines and policies. As part of your duties, you will work directly with families in their homes and communities, providing support that helps strengthen parenting capacity and child safety. You will also play a key role in liaising with internal and external partners to ensure an integrated approach to care, supporting the broader child protection framework.

Where You'll Be Working 

This role will see you working within the Whole Family Team of CCLHD, based across multiple locations in the Central Coast region. You will be supported by a strong team of clinical leads in Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol, Psychiatrist, and Addiction Specialist, providing you with the mentorship and professional development you need to succeed. Your work will take place in a variety of community and home settings, enabling you to engage directly with families and deliver care that is integrated, holistic, and tailored to their needs. You will also work closely with government and non-government agencies, making your work impactful and far-reaching.

Families are referred into the program where Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH) has been identified due to the presence of parental mental health and/or drug and alcohol. Family members may also be experiencing Violence Abuse or Neglect such as Domestic Violence.  

Supported and mentored by the Clinical Leads Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol, Psychiatrist and Addiction Specialist, the Health Clinician provides a range of treatment interventions delivered in the home and community.
 
Families receive comprehensive care in close collaboration with Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) as well as other health services, relevant government and non-government agencies. There is a focus on strengthening parenting capacity so children can safely remain with their family.

This role is suitable for the following:

  • Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2
  • Occupational Therapist Level 3
  • Psychologist
  • Social Worker Level 3

About You  

  • You hold a tertiary degree and full registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist, Nurse, or Senior Psychologist, or be eligible for membership of the AASW as a Social Worker.
  • You have significant experience working with families, specifically in the context of mental health, drug and alcohol issues.
  • You have a current Drivers' Licence and willingness to travel  between sites and facilities across a large geographic area.
  • You possess extensive knowledge of the impact violence abuse or neglect has on child development and comprehensive experience in assessment, counselling, therapy and/or casework with families.
