An exciting opportunity is available for a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Lead – Child Protection Counselling Service (CPCS) to join our Family Services Unit within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) service.

This permanent full-time position is ideal for a senior social worker with demonstrated leadership and clinical expertise in trauma-informed counselling, child protection, and family systems. The role focuses on supporting the recovery, preservation, and restoration of families involved in the child protection system.


About the Service:

CPCS provides specialist therapeutic services to children and young people (0–18 years) and their families/carers who have experienced, or are believed to have experienced:

  • Physical and/or emotional abuse

  • Neglect

  • Exposure to domestic and family violence

The service plays a critical role in family preservation and is embedded within a broader, integrated Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) framework. The CPCS team works closely with internal health services and external agencies to deliver person-centred, trauma-informed care to vulnerable children and families.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-level clinical leadership and supervision to a multidisciplinary team

  • Maintain a part-time clinical caseload, modelling best-practice therapeutic intervention

  • Lead service delivery in alignment with child protection legislation and NSW Health guidelines

  • Facilitate integrated care by building strong partnerships with health, child protection, and community stakeholders

  • Support team development, service evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Promote culturally safe, inclusive and family-centred care practices

About You 

  • Recognised degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership with the AASW.
  • Extensive experience in child protection, trauma counselling, and family therapy.
  • Proven leadership capabilities and a commitment to reflective, ethical practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor staff in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Current unrestricted NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel across the district as required
