About the Role
The Northern Sydney LHD is responsible for hosting the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Service (NVSS) which comprises four operational arms, including two teams of medical practitioners. The medical practitioners working within the NVSS will provide medical services to the NVSS Access Service and/or the NSLHD local support team. The Access Service provides surge capacity across NSW to ensure equity in access to VAD. The NSLHD LST support patients to access VAD within the Northern Sydney region. 
Purpose of the Position
To provide services for NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Service (NVSS) and these services will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. 



Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia and/or practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of General Registration.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Completed the approved NSW VAD mandatory training for authorised practitioners or be working towards this training and meet any other requirements prescribed by regulation.
  4. Demonstrated thorough understanding of the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 and It’s application to wide range of clinical scenarios, ensuring safe management of all patients, including those who are assessed as ineligible.
  5. Demonstrates a willingness to travel within NSW, including metropolitan Sydney, regional, rural and remote areas within NSW, and hold a current driver’s licence.
  6. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  7. Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  8. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established.
