About the role
The Clinical Director will provide expert specialist clinical advice to the NVSS; direct line management of Access Service and LST VMOs; clinical leadership within the NSLHD and leadership and support to the wider NSW VAD network and representation to external stakeholder bodies or groups. This will include contributing to the teaching and training of medical staff and providing clinical leadership to other authorised VAD practitioners across the state and support to other LHD VAD teams. Central to this role is initiating and supporting strategies that promote a coordinated and integrated approach for delivering safe, effective VAD services across NSW.
Purpose of the Position
The NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Service (NVSS) comprises four operational arms, including the NSLHD VAD Local Support Team (LST) and the statewide Access Service. The Access Service comprises a team of NSW Health credentialled VAD practitioners (Visiting Medical Officers) who act as Coordinating, Consulting or Administering Practitioners for patients across NSW. The Access Service provides practitioners where local availability of services may prohibit access to timely patient-centered care to patients requesting VAD.      

 







Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Completed the VAD mandatory training (6-10 hours) and authorisation as a VAD practitioner in NSW and recredentialling when mandatory.
  4. Comprehensive understanding of the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022.
  5. Proven ability to provide clinical leadership, advanced negotiation skills and the ability to develop and maintain a cohesive patient centered service.
  6. Demonstrated capability to think strategically and experience working in complex organisations with an understanding of priorities in the NSW Health system.
  7. Sound knowledge of and commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, work health and safety, working within NSW Health Policy and current applicable clinical practice guidelines.
