Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/dental practitioners for the above position (s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within Primary Care & Community Health.

 

Successful applicants will provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty medical and forensic services in responding to sexual assault and domestic and family violence (DFV). This includes providing specialised clinical support to assist in the prevention and response to violence, abuse and neglect, as well as participating in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Services and other district health services (e.g. Emergency Department) as required.

 

The number of sessions will be 5-6 per week and will be provided primarily from the Medical and Forensic Unit at Nepean Hospital with some outreach required to other NBMLHD facilities. The role will also require liaising with other relevant agencies including NSW Police and the Department of Communities and Justice. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria

  1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Possess Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine of the RCPA; or, Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine of the (RACP) ; or, Royal Australasian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; or, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1997 and Staff Specialists (State) Award, and evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  3. Sound clinical knowledge in integrated sexual assault service delivery and management of adult sexual assault, including responses to crisis presentations, medical follow-up and adult wellbeing consultations demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
  4. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  6. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  7. Sound clinical knowledge in the subspecialty of the medical and forensic responses to sexual assault and domestic and family violence, including writing and reviewing expert certificates and providing expert evidence and experience in court, demonstrated by relevant qualifications and/or appropriate post-Fellowship clinical experience.
  8. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research as required within the Department.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award.
