A new and exciting opportunity in a key role within the well-established Cancer Services team, Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD), which is supported by the McGrath Foundation. Applications are sought from suitably qualified Registered Nurse with previous Cancer Care Nursing experience. The role of the McGrath Cancer Nurse (MCCN) Gastrointestinal - Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 (CNC2) is to provide specialist nursing care, information, education, and support to patients diagnosed with metastatic Gastrointestinal Cancer.

Where you'll be working


The position sits alongside existing Cancer Nurse Coordinators and McGrath Breast Nurses. The MCCN - Gastrointestinal is a highly skilled and motivated practitioner who will utilise expert skills, knowledge, and experience to work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team according to the complexity of care required and the individual need of the patients in their care. Workload will be mainly self-generated, and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration between primary and tertiary health. The MCCN is a clinical expert and functions as a resource person to patients, carers, families, clinical services, and community agencies. The MCCN will deliver a coordinated, evidenced-based, seamless, and patient focused approach to care through specialist educational resources for patients, carers, and staff.  The patient-centred, holistic nursing care provided by the MCCN is consistent with the approach underpinned by the McGrath Model of Care.

What you'll be doing

The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse (MCCN) supports achieving the goals and objectives of the role in the context of the McGrath Foundation and Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) organisational values and structure.

The MCCN is an expert nurse who will provide leadership, evidence-based  advice and support for people with Gastrointestinal cancer, communicating with multidisciplinary teams and the community to deliver on a collaborative clinical and supportive model of care for clients and their families.
 
The MCCN will have expertise within the specialty of Gastrointestinal cancer, inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals to multidisciplinary team members and coordinating ongoing clinical and supportive cancer care.
 
The MCCN will formulate and implement policy, guide practice development, and engage in education and research activities.
 
The MCCN is responsible for the provision of clinical supervision to nursing staff and acts as a role model, providing nursing care on a regular basis.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Registered Nurse who has minimum 5 years full time post graduate experience with 3 years full time equivalent in the specialty field. In addition, the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification (minimum Grad Diploma/Certificate level) or evidence of working towards Masters level qualification.
  3. Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  5. Demonstrated ability to undertake quality improvement and research activities that influence and enhance clinical practice and implement change.
  6. Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
