- Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- A minimum of three years’ experience and qualifications eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or qualifications eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or a Bachelor Degree in Counselling; or a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health); or a Bachelor Social Science (Djirruwang programme) or related field; or have completed an ECAV qualification pathway- Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma) or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Demonstrate ability to provide counselling services to individuals, and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence and abuse and understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
- Demonstrated ability to create Aboriginal community connections, engagement and collaboration to affect outcomes with an understanding of intergenerational trauma, contextual and causal factors for violence, abuse and neglect and the principles of cultural safety.
- Understanding of the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and communities and its relationships to Aboriginal family violence. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with Aboriginal communities in culturally competent ways and commitment to addressing Aboriginal health and community needs.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills in combination with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a small therapeutic team.
- Accreditation or willingness to undertake accreditation with the Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Children’s Guardian and maintain this.
- Valid, unrestricted driver's license valid in Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment, including overnight stays are required.
