Join our Data Linkages Services Team at Ministry of Health for an exciting 10-month temporary employment (with potential to extend up to 24 months) opportunity and be part of the team enriching health in millions of ways every day. 


The position is within the Centre for Health Record Linkage (CHeReL). This unit is part of the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence, Population and Public Health Division, NSW Ministry of Health.

About the role

The primary role of this position is to ensure the prompt delivery of raw data from our clients to the data linkage and integration teams. The individual in this role will be tasked with carrying out our existing data sourcing processes, with the aim of increasing our ability to deliver linked data to our clients on time. The incumbent will also contribute to the redesign of the data pipelines to better cater to both current and future business requirements and to increase automation and data re-use capabilities


Health Manager level 2, starting salary from $109,857 - $129,624 plus Super, with a 38-hour work week.


What you will do

  • Data Sourcing: Build and manage relationships with stakeholders and data custodians to handle data requests, ensure timely supply, and securely exchange data using IT systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform data quality checks, resolve issues, and support the development of quality control metrics for received data.
  • Data Security and Compliance: Safely exchange data with custodians, ensuring data formats meet expected standards and security requirements.
  • Retention and Deletion: Oversee data retention and deletion processes to maintain compliance and efficiency.
  • Advisory and Reporting: Provide advice on data requirements, processes, and governance, and deliver progress reports to stakeholders.


About you


We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:

  • Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Hold relevant tertiary qualifications and have experience working with data across industries like health, retail, or government.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences using excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Data Management Expertise: Skilled in using data tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, or R for managing and analysing data.
  • Analytical Thinking: Capable of solving problems, analysing health information, and addressing data quality issues with high-level analytical skills.
  • Teamwork and Organization: Experience working in collaborative teams, handling sensitive issues, and managing projects to meet deadlines and budgets.

    • Data analysis methods for accuracy.
    • Lessons learned and application to future projects.
  2. Managing Project Delays - Provide an example of a project delay caused by a colleague or client while proactively managing several data sourcing or similar workstreams. Include:
    • Project nature and delay cause.
    • Communication and mitigation steps.
    • Management of multiple workstreams.
    • Stakeholder expectation management.
    • Root cause analysis.
    • Lessons learned and application to improve project management.
