Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located at Department of Cardiology at Auburn Hospital.

 

The Visiting Medical Officer is an essential member of the Cardiology multidisciplinary team, providing clinical leadership and promoting patient safety and quality.

 

The position provides contemporary comprehensive specialist cardiology services throughout the hospital for optimal patient outcomes.

 

The Visiting Medical Officer is responsible for:

 

o    Delivering specialist services in a way that will best meet the clinical needs

o    and requirements of the department, achieve quality patient outcomes.

o    Utilise information systems to enable informed decision making and care

o    planning.

o    Communicating with staff and clinicians to ensure quality and continuity of

o    care.

o    Actively participating in risk management, safety and quality programs to

o    improve organisational processes and own practices.

 

The position assists in planning, developing, implementing, monitoring and review of clinical service provision, strategies and policies to enable the delivery of high quality, accessible patient care services to the community, patients and families of the Western Sydney Local Health District.

 

The position provides clinical leadership in best practice care to patients, leadership of a workforce culture that promotes quality, safety and excellent supervision of junior staff, ensuring a mutually respectful environment within the department and in collaboration with facility staff.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

Selection Criteria

·         Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent and be eligible to be registered with the Medical Board of Australia as provided for in the Health Services Act 1997.

·         Must have Australian Citizenship or Australian Permanent Residency

·         Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

·         Sound clinical knowledge in Cardiology. Applicants will be highly regarded if they have demonstrated experience in, and are eligible for credentialling in Non-invasive Cardiac Imaging, management of Complex Heart Failure.

·         Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

o    Holding a current or prior Senior Medical Officer position within WSLHD

o    High level interpersonal and communication skills.

o    Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

o    Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

o     Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

·         Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
