Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  The positions will primarily be based at Blacktown campus of Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital within the Department of Gastroenterology. Commencement in the role will be from August 2025 or as negotiated with the successful candidate.

Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals are undergoing significant expansion, service development and revision of role delineation of clinical services. Blacktown Hospital is expected to grow to be one of the leading tertiary referral hospitals in Metropolitan Sydney in the next 5 years. Consultants will be challenged to provide leadership at the level of a senior clinician-manager to service redesign and excellence in clinical services delivery, research, education, and teaching.

Successful applicants will be required to provide clinical services consistent with the specialty of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The successful applicant will provide inpatient and outpatient care, endoscopic services and participate in the on-call roster.

The position will include one weekly endoscopy session at Blacktown Hospital and outpatient clinics with a special emphasis on a subspecialty interest as determined by the interest and expertise of the applicant.

The applicant will be expected to contribute to quality assurance projects and be involved with departmental oversight for discharge summaries, DRG coding and other administrative activities. These activities include representing the gastroenterology department at Department of Medicine meetings and interdepartmental management meetings.  Involvement with teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students will also be required.

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.

Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying. IBD subspecialty highly desirable but not essential.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Essential Requirements for Appointment

 

1.   Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RACP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)

2.  Sound clinical knowledge in Gastroenterology and Hepatology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

3.   CCRTGE recognition for upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy.

4.   Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research within the Department.
