The successful applicant will be appropriately trained and experience in rehabilitation medicine as a specialist. This includes providing specialist medical expertise for admitted patients and across the range of outpatient clinics, specifically the Intellectual Disability Health Service.
The Intellectual Disability Health Service is a new service designed to provide best practice care to patients with diagnosed or suspected intellectual disability and unmet complex health needs, identified by General Practitioner referral. The service is based at Westmead Hospital and provides care coordination and time limited therapeutic interventions. The team operates during business hours and holds face to face clinic appointments with scheduled patients. The referring General Practitioner is responsible for evaluation, follow up and implementation of recommendations for ongoing care in the mainstream health system.
This is a Fixed Term appointment for the period of 3 years.
Selection Criteria
· Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency
· Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.
o Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
o Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
o Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
o Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
o Maintaining developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
· Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
· Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:
o Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.
o Commitment to self-care and personal development.
o Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.
o Commitment to building relationships, leading ad developing others.

· Demonstrated commitment to education, training and research, as applicable to the position.
