Royal Prince Alfred is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and one of Australia’s leading tertiary referral hospitals, providing an extensive range of diagnostic and treatment facilities. Over 12,000 children present to RPA ED each year and approximately 1600 are admitted with a range of acute and chronic medical, mental health and surgical problems.
The Child and Adolescent Unit provides a broad range of services, including a busy ten-bed inpatient service, a Hospital in the Home program, daily acute review clinics, paediatric medical, surgical and allied health outpatient clinics and medical support to the Naamuru Parent and Baby Unit, NSW’s first public inpatient, perinatal mental health facility. There is a focus on innovation, quality improvement and the teaching and mentoring of trainees. Close working relationships exist with SLHD Emergency Departments, the Department of Newborn Care (NICU) at RPA Hospital, the Paediatric Department at Canterbury Hospital, the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network and community-based SLHD services such as Child and Family Health Services, Violence Abuse and Neglect services and SLHD Mental Health Services.
The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development.
The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with recognised qualifications in General Paediatrics and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.
