The Opportunity

The primary purpose of the Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program is to provide advanced educational, clinical, strategic and programmatic expertise and leadership in the establishment and implementation of NSW Health’s new Adult Survivors Program – a specialist integrated program for adult survivors of child sexual abuse with complex needs.

The Adult Survivors Program is a significant reform initiative being implemented by NSW Health in response to findings from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The program aims to improve outcomes for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, with a particular focus on survivors of complex trauma with mental health and alcohol and other drug support needs.  The program model takes a hybrid strategic-clinical approach.

The focus of the Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program role will be to provide educational leadership and system improvement and service integration for health responses to adult survivors of child sexual abuse with complex needs. This includes facilitating the learning and professional development of clinical health staff related to responding to adult survivors of child sexual abuse with complex needs, through a trauma-specific lens. It also includes providing other indirect interventions such as developing strategic governance and providing capacity-building for NSW Health professionals and partner services.

Alongside this educational role, the Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will provide direct (clinical) interventions to a small caseload of adult survivors with co-occurring mental health and alcohol and other drug’s needs, to assist with meeting client need and maintaining clinical currency. The Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will also manage and supervise relevant clinical staff as local staffing for the new model is identified.

The Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will hold responsibility for the design, management and delivery of this new local specialist integrated program. This role will work in close partnership with the Program Manager – Adult Survivors Program to perform novel and complex clinical and strategic work, using a high level of professional knowledge and judgement. It is expected that the Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will work with minimal direction to establish an innovative service which aligns with NSW Health and Violence, Abuse and Neglect Redesign values and goals.

As the main aim of this position is to establish and provide a new integrated health program, the Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program involves operating in an environment of organisational complexity and applying a highly advanced clinical knowledge and collaboration and strategic skills. A key responsibility of the role is facilitating learning and professional development of other health professionals across the district on the needs of adult survivors of child sexual abuse, including designing and delivering educational resources.
