What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role is to supervise and perform molecular MRD testing, including development and optimisation of patient specific molecular MRD assays using diagnostic bone marrow or blood material and subsequent MRD testing on follow-up timepoint samples. A variety of molecular techniques are to be performed, including DNA extraction, real-time PCR, PCR fragment analysis, massively parallel sequencing and DNA sequence analysis of immunoglobulin and T-cell receptor gene rearrangements for the design of allele-specific oligonucleotide primers and workup of patient-specific molecular MRD assays.
The role would be well-suited to an experienced molecular MRD scientist with a broad scientific skill set, is an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with excellent leadership skills, who can work collaboratively within a team to promote a centre of excellence for molecular MRD testing.
- Bachelor of Science or college of advanced education requiring a minimum of three years full-time study, with subjects including molecular biology and genetics.
- Extensive laboratory and troubleshooting experience in molecular genetics or molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction, PCR, fragment analysis, real-time PCR, massively parallel sequencing, and DNA sequence analysis and primer design to immunoglobulin and T-cell receptor genes.
- Experience in supervision of molecular MRD laboratory workload and staff.
- Experience in a diagnostic laboratory and familiarity with National Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) requirements for development and use of in-house in-vitro diagnostic medical devices, National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation for compliance with the International Standard ISO15189 is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill.
- Required to participate in emergency after-hours and public holiday duties as required or directed by the supervising scientist
