What you'll be doing
The Department provides a range of Cytogenetic/Cytogenomic testing services, including molecular measurable residual disease (MRD) testing.
 
The purpose of the role is to perform a range of molecular techniques to workup and optimise patient-specific assays for molecular MRD testing. This includes nucleic acid (DNA) extraction, PCR techniques and fragment analysis, real-time quantitative PCR and massively parallel sequencing (MPS) and DNA sequence analysis of Immunoglobulin and T-cell receptor gene rearrangements for allele-specific-oligonucleotide PCR primer design of patient-specific molecular MRD assays. The source of material used for MRD testing includes blood or bone marrow collected at diagnosis and follow-up timepoints post-chemotherapy induction.
  1. Science Degree or college of advanced education requiring a minimum of three (3) years full-time study, with subjects including molecular biology and genetics.
  2. Laboratory experience in molecular genetics or molecular biology with experience in cytogenomic techniques desirable.
  3. Experience in PCR techniques and primer design.
  4. Experience in fragment analysis, DNA sequence analysis and interpretation.
  5. Experience in a diagnostic laboratory and familiarity with International Standard ISO15189, National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation and National Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) requirements for development and use of in-house in-vitro diagnostic medical devices is desirable.
  6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skill.
  8. Required to participate in emergency after-hours and public holiday duties as required or directed by the supervising scientist or Head of Department.
