The Psychological Medicine department at the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) are seeking a Visiting Medical Officer to join their team for 8 hours per week, commencing ASAP until 30th June 2027. The position will be based at both the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. 

What you'll be doing
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to provide specialist psychiatric assessment and care for optimal child and adolescent outcomes in the Trans and Gender Diverse Service at Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN).

Provide and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice in trans and gender diverse, at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
 
This position is located in the SCHN Trans and Gender Diverse Service, with professional line management to the Clinical Site Medical Director, Psychological Medicine, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Applicants must have completed the COVID-19 vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) 2 primary doses are required for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases).

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in child and adolescent psychiatry at the role delineation of the service.
  3. Undertake assessments of young people who present to the SCHN Trans and Gender Diverse Service, for DSM 5 diagnosis of gender dysphoria and co-occurring mental health and psychosocial conditions, including formulation and recommendations.
  4. Generate written medical and court reports as required.
  5. Comply with the endorsed SCHN Trans and Gender Diverse Service model of care and the NSW Health Framework for Specialist Trans and Gender Diverse Health Service.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  7. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
