Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Royal North Shore Hospital
What you'll be doing
You will join the experienced team of Diabetes Nurse Educators, 4 Staff Specialist Paediatric Endocrinologists, Doctors specialising in Paediatrics/Paediatric Endocrinology, a Senior Dietitian and Clinical Psychologist. We provide multidisciplinary family centred care for approximately 250 children and adolescents from the neonatal period to eighteen years of age with diabetes mellitus. The Department has excellent uptake of Advanced Diabetes Technologies and is committed to research and good clinical outcomes.
You will be supported by our team to develop your inpatient and outpatient diabetes management skills, and provide support for ongoing education, research projects and conference attendance.
We work closely with other departments within health including the Young Adult Clinics, The Child Youth Mental Health teams and the inpatient service on children’s ward at Royal North Shore (RNS) hospital. This role will also provide the opportunity for education of school and pre-school personnel, and ward nursing staff with the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD).
The successful candidate will be motivated, caring, and a critical thinker who is committed to their ongoing professional development. They will have a sound understanding of family-centred care, developmentally appropriate communication, and psychosocial challenges who can advocate for young people with diabetes and families caring for a child with chronic disease. They will have excellent written and spoken communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Division 1 Registered Nurse with post registration qualification relevant to speciality and at least 3 years experience working in the clinical area of their post graduate qualification.
- Relevant post-graduate qualification or experience working in the areas of diabetes or paediatrics.
- Evidence of ability to develop, implement and evaluate education in diabetes for patients, carers, staff and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based clinical practice and quality improvement.
