Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Clinical Genetics.

Successful applicants will join the existing team in the Department of Clinical Genetics at Nepean Hospital in providing a high-quality Genetic Outpatient Clinic Service and consultative service to Maternal Fetal Medicine, Neonatal Intensive Care, Paediatrics, and Adult Specialist Departments of the LHD. The position includes supervision of Genetic Counsellors and Advanced Trainees, and participation in an on-call roster.

As an affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Sydney, the successful applicant will participate in the University teaching program, with delivery of lectures to undergraduate medical students, teaching responsibilities to the junior medical staff and the FRACP candidates for their written paper.

The position of Staff Specialist in Clinical Genetics will ensure that:

·        Clinical Services are focused on delivering excellent clinical care and support to children, adults and their families.

·        Research and teaching are undertaken and focused on the area of Genetic medicine.

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 2 months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

Outpatient clinics and rostered on call undertaken at Nepean hospital is allocated according to FTE.  Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

  1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  2. Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Practitioners (RACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position. Completion of training requirements in Clinical Genetics as stipulated by the Specialist Advisory committee of the FRACP.

  3. Sound knowledge and experience in Clinical Genetics in paediatric, adult, and prenatal areas demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

  4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision and Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  5. High level interpersonal and communication skills.

  6. Possess or be eligible for Australian citizenship or permanent residence.

  7. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

  8. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and the Staff Specialists (State) Award
