With CORE Values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment,

working with us will ensure your professional life is provided every opportunity to succeed
and develop in your chosen career role.

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a wonderful place to expand your career and grow your skills and knowledge. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we provide a range of public health services to the Nepean and Blue Mountains and Lithgow Region.

Our newly established Medical Forensic Unit (MFU) stands at the frontline of care for victim-survivors of sexual assault and domestic & family violence within the broader Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) team. We are a specialised team of doctors and nurses who work alongside counsellors to provide integrated medical, forensic and psychosocial care to people affected by violence abuse and neglect (VAN).

Our service is seeking to engage an experienced Registered Nurse to join our close-knit team as Clinical Nurse Specialists Grade 2 – Violence, Abuse and Neglect (CNS 2 – VAN) on a permanent full time or part time basis. The successful incumbent will have a broad range of clinical skills, including recognition of a deteriorating patient, and enjoy working in a supported but autonomous role.

Your role as CNS 2 plays an essential role within the multidisciplinary PARVAN team to provide integrated, trauma-informed medical care and forensic examinations to people of all genders, aged 14 years and older, who have experienced sexual assault and domestic and family violence. This includes provision of integrated crisis responses (which can include collecting forensic samples, speculum examinations, clinical photography, writing medico-legal reports and giving expert testimony in court), non-acute clinical care and follow up medical care and health care navigation. You will utilise your high level interpersonal skills in facilitating high quality trauma informed patient care and provide liaison and consultation to other health clinicians.

Previous work in a VAN nursing role is advantageous but not essential. The Medical Forensic Unit is a supportive team that provides additional onsite training, clinical support, and supervision. We support people in their most vulnerable moments. If you are looking for a career where you can provide care with a trauma informed focus, we would love to hear from you!
