The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction. 

The Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 is a registered nurse who applies a high level of clinical nursing knowledge, experience and skills in providing complex nursing care directed towards a specific area of practice, a defined population or defined service area with minimum direct supervision.

This position possesses a high level of autonomy and clinical leadership, ensuring the patient will have prompt access to Drug and Alcohol care and/or referral to the most appropriate care pathway.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA
  2. Relevant post graduate qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the specialty area of practice related to the management of patients with Drug and Alcohol needs or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public health organisation
  3. Demonstrates a high level of confidence and effectively communicate and engage patients to improve patient outcomes and provide safe quality care that is culturally appropriate.
  4. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work.
  5. Demonstrated effective communications written and verbal skills.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and to communicate effectively with a broad range of health professionals to facilitate collaborative care
  8. Ability to work a flexible roster, day shift across all days of the week according to the unit or team requirements.
