Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital (SSEH) is steeped in history, it is Australia’s first hospital and dates from the arrival of the first fleet in 1788. SSEH offers quality health care to city residents, workers, visitors, and tourists. Our specialist service attracts patients from all over NSW.

SSEH is a quaternary referral unit for Hands and Eyes. Clinical Services provided are a 24-hour Emergency Department (For eyes and general). Clinical wars including General medicine, Eyes, Hands and Peri-operative suites.


What you'll be doing
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

The purpose of this role is:
  1. To use clinical knowledge, skill and clinical expertise to provide a high level of physiotherapy services within the role and function of the Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital. 
  2. To provide these services to patients from two different caseloads -   medical (inpatients) and hands (inpatients and outpatients). 
  3. Evaluation of the ward (inpatient) Physiotherapy service including the collection of appropriate activity data and outcome information.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  1. Post-graduate general public hospital experience including respiratory and orthopaedic physiotherapy . Abitlity to participate in the weekend on-call roster.
  2. More than two years post-graduate general public hospital experience including respiratory and orthopaedic physiotherapy
  3. Some experience in Hand Therapy. This should include the therapeutic management of traumatic hand injuries
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise a range of written and verbal communication skills
  5. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  6. Demonstrated ability in audit or other clinical improvement activities
