Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.  The primary location of this position will be negotiable.

Successful applicants will be Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) / VMO - General Practitioners and will provide expert medical assessment and management of people requesting access to voluntary assisted dying (VAD) under the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 as part of the NBMLHD VAD Service.

This role will be part of a pool of specialists that will fulfil the Coordinating, Consulting and or Administering Practitioner roles within the VAD process.

The number of hours will vary dependent on workload and medical practitioner availability.  Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

1.        MBBS or equivalent, currently registered, or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).  Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by AHPRA and/or practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of General Registration.

2.       Completion of the mandatory Voluntary Assisted Dying training and registration as an Authorised Practitioner with the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Board.

3.      Sound clinical knowledge, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, including end of life care.

4.      High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team for the provision of clinical care and decision making as it relates to voluntary assisted dying.

5.      Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner, including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour and a commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.

6.      Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation, Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.

7.       Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues across multiple sites and settings. 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Fee-for-Service Contracts) Determination 2014

Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
