Where you'll be working
Wagga Wagga Base Hospital provides a 24/7 Emergency Department that supports both the township of Wagga Wagga and surrounding towns and villages. The Emergency Department is equipped with telehealth cameras to connect the team in Wagga Wagga with other specialists or GPs across the state through the Critical Care Advisory Service. There is an Interventional Services Department which consists of a Cardiac Catheter Lab, a Hybrid (DSA) lab and a Cardiac Procedure Room.

Wagga Wagga Base Hospital provides services including critical care, medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric, and rehabilitation care. There is also the provision of a full range of allied health and support services such as dental, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sexual health and violence prevention and response services.

Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW with an urban population of over 60,000 residents, nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.

Wagga Wagga offers a myriad of activities to enjoy, including a wonderful selection of restaurants, cafes, markets and wineries, galleries and museums. It has terrific gardens and recreational areas and caters to both the cultural and sporting enthusiasts.

There are extensive education options from early childhood through to tertiary; including public and private primary and secondary schools, the TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, Charles Sturt University, The University of NSW Rural Clinical School, and The University of Notre Dame – Rural clinical School.

What you'll be doing
The primary focus of the Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician (CASP) is to provide clinical and strategic leadership to support holistic, child protection medical and forensic responses within the district. This role is also responsible for developing systems, policies and practices, in partnership with the broader workforce, to ensure optimal health and wellbeing outcomes for children experiencing sexual assault, physical abuse, neglect and/or domestic violence.

  1. Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number, and recognised specialist qualifications.
  2. Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Paediatrics and Child Health Division.
  3. Appropriate knowledge and clinical experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in child abuse and neglect including child sexual assault.
  4. Ability to work harmoniously and effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and with a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond appropriately to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence-based practice and practice development.
  7. Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and provide clinical supervision including the ability to provide education, vision and research would be viewed favourably.
  8. Demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values.
