An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified General Physician to join the medical team at South East Regional Hospital a Level 4 Health Facility based in the Bega Valley, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.


Where you'll be working


South East Regional Hospital (SERH) is part of the Bega Valley Health Service and Coastal Network. SERH is a 99 bed hospital and offers Emergency Medicine; Surgery (Urology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Obstetrics); Acute Inpatient services including a permanently staffed 6 bed ICU, Subacute Rehabilitation (SARU), Paediatric, Maternity and Mental Health beds; Renal Dialysis and Oncology Outpatient Clinics; Hospital In The Home (HITH); Pathology Collection; Pharmacy; and Medical Imaging (x-ray, CT and ultrasound).

Bega - 429 kilometres south of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW Snow fields. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with a short 55 minute flight to Sydney and daily flights to Melbourne. With a range of quality private and public schools in the area, younger generations are also be well looked after, growing up with fantastic friendly country folk, and a huge range of outdoor activities to keep them occupied with no long commutes.

Your Opportunity:

  • Provide best practice evidence based clinical services to maximise quality patient outcomes. Undertake supervision and education within the clinical environment of junior medical staff and other relevant staff to foster safe clinical practice. 
  • Use clinical information systems to ensure accurate and complete clinical documentation, informed decision making and care planning.
  • Ensure clear and prompt communication with SNSWLHD staff and with health professionals as required
  • Actively participate in risk management, safety and quality improvement programs.
  • Comply with relevant articles of legislation and regulations, NSW ministry of health policies and SNSWLHD policy and procedures.

Selection Criteria

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Physician.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  3. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to participation in on-call rosters and providing timely on-site responses.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to all aspects of clinical governance.
  7. Demonstrated ability to consistently display a commitment to, and compliance with, and leadership in high quality Customer Service, Workplace Diversity, Occupational Health & Safety and Industrial Democracy principles, practices and relevant legislation relating to these areas and an understanding of and commitment to the organisation’s values.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
