Come and join our Paediatrics Team here in Bega – it’s great!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Paediatrician to join the team here at South East Regional Hospital in the Bega Valley, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.

About the opportunity:

South East Regional Hospital is a Level 4 Paediatric Unit with 6 paediatric inpatient beds plus 4 short stay beds. The service is currently the receiving hospital for children requiring admission across the Coastal Network. The service supports a well-staffed and experienced emergency department with approximately 4000 paediatric emergency presentations annually at South East Regional Hospital. The service provides telehealth consultation and support to emergency departments at other hospitals across the Coastal Network who see a further 4000 paediatric emergency presentations annually. The service at South East Regional Hospital has a 2 bed special care nursery supporting a Level 3 maternity service that delivers approximately 250 babies per annum.  The service also provides specialist telehealth neonatal support to Eurobodalla nursery. The service also has a varied outpatient paediatric caseload comprising challenging and interesting paediatric medicine. In a true networked model, the service provides regular specialist outpatient clinics both locally at Bega and through outreach clinics in Eurobodalla and Monaro regions.

The service is a training site for medical students in paediatric medicine from Australian National University. The service also accredited with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for Advanced Training in Paediatrics & Child Health (rural paediatrics/community & developmental paediatrics). Upskilling of staff across the Coastal Network in the area of Paediatric and Neonatal medicine is a strategic focus. There is a strong emphasis on teaching with the newly built Education and Simulation Centre based here at South East Regional Hospital and regular outreach teaching programs for General Practitioners and Nursing/Midwifery at hospitals and primary care centres across our coastal network.

Paediatric medicine and unmet needs for children in our region has been identified as a priority area for this Southern NSW Local Health District in our strategic plan. The service is a relatively young paediatric service with substantial opportunities for vision and innovation. As such, this position affords an opportunity to join a team of committed paediatricians in an exciting service development opportunity.

This position is ideally suited to those looking for a great lifestyle in an idyllic location with challenging and rewarding work in rural paediatric medicine as part of a growing, engaged, innovative and supportive community of paediatricians.
