We are looking for a Fellow of RACP, RACGP or FACRRM to join our team

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, a total of 44 537sq kms.  It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains.

Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network


Where you'll be working

Cooma Hospital and Health Service is part of the Inland Network. It is a 14-bed acute hospital and offers emergency medicine; surgery (orthopaedics, gynaecology, gastroenterology, general surgery and obstetrics); inpatient services; maternity, surgical and paediatric (24 hours) beds; renal dialysis; outpatient oncology; pathology collection; pharmacy; and medical imaging (x-ray, CT and ultrasound).

Cooma Community Health is co-located with the hospital on the corner of Victoria and Bombala Streets. Clients are registered/referred via the Central Intake Service. Community health services encompass aboriginal health; nurse lead women, children, family and general services; aged care services such as the aged care assessment team (ACAT), transitional aged care assessment program (TACP) and dementia care team; oral health; drug and alcohol; mental health for children, adolescents and adults; sexual health; cancer care; outreach renal clinic, palliative care; and allied health services such as physiotherapy, social work, occupational therapy, podiatry, speech pathology and dietetics.  Many community allied health services are provided in the hospital.     

Cooma is a thriving pastoral hub of the Snowy Mountains, situated in southeastern NSW on the unique Monaro plains, a naturally treeless landscape and “…home to native grasslands, plants and animals not found anywhere else in Australia” (Monaro Grasslands Guide: Department of Environment and Energy).  

This rural town is the place to stop, enquire and discover the hidden gems of our Snowy Monaro region. Cooma is the largest town in the Snowy Monaro region with a passionate community of arts, history and nature enthusiasts. There is so much to see with museums, galleries including the award-winning Charles Davis Photographic Gallery, unique bushwalking and mountain bike trail


What you'll be doing

  • Provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services for optimal patient outcomes.

  •  Provide and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner or training towards and within 6 months of Fellowship.
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience as a senior role in rural general medical inpatient setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement. Demonstrated commitment to participation in on-call rosters and providing timely on-site responses
  6. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to all aspects of clinical governance
  7. Demonstrated ability to consistently display a commitment to, and compliance with, and leadership in high quality Customer Service, Workplace Diversity, Occupational Health & Safety and Industrial Democracy principles, practices and relevant legislation relating to these areas and an understanding of and commitment to the organisation's values

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
