We are home to four large Aboriginal nations – the Gundungurra, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin.

Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the Southern half of NSW. Surrounding the ACT on three sides and all the way down to the Victorian border, it extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. Your Opportunity:

  • Provide forensic medical examinations to adult victims of sexual assault presenting to health facilities in SNSWLHD. This will include forensic examinations, arranging prophylactic treatment for pregnancy and STIs, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow up, support and participation in legal proceedings.
  • Provide a clinical forensic service that is in line with current peer agreed best practice within NSW and within SNSWLHD.
  • Comply with Hospital/District/Ministry of Health policies and procedures regarding the prescription of medications and ordering of tests.
  • Utilise information systems to enable informed decision making and care planning. Ensuring accurate documentation regarding client care.
  • Communicate with staff and clinicians to ensure quality and continuity of care ensuring clinical and timely management of patients.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner with interest in/commitment to fields of Women's Health, OBS and Gynaecology or Emergency Medicine and experience in clinical and forensic management of adult sexual assault.
  2. Working towards or commitment to completion of ECAV Introduction to the Medical and Forensic Management of Adult Sexual Assault as offered by the Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV).
  3. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  5. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  6. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
