An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Dental Officer to join Batemans Bay and Moruya Hospitals in the Eurobodalla Shire, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.

Where you'll be working

The Eurobodalla Health Service is located in the Yuin Nation on the beautiful south coast of NSW. It is a networked service spread over three campuses, with two hospitals co-located with community health, Batemans Bay and Moruya, and a standalone community health centre in Narooma collocated with the library. 

The NSW Government has announced $260 million to build in Moruya, a sustainable, modern and purpose-built hospital to support the needs of the entire Eurobodalla Shire from Narooma to Batemans Bay to service the ever-growing coastal population. This new facility is expected to open to patients in 2025.

DENTAL OFFICERS RURAL INCENTIVE (DORIS) - Dentists working in regional areas across NSW may be eligible for a Dental Officer Rural Incentive Scheme payment of up to $20,000 per annum. The Rural incentive package applies to all full time and part-time dental officers and dental specialists working in an eligible rural and remote area. Your Opportunity:

  1. Provide evidence based clinical care to patients, within your scope of practice and legislative and regulatory frameworks, resulting in quality care and a contemporary approach to dental practice and patient care. This will involve diagnosis and treatment/management of dental diseases and dental health problems from basic to moderately complex.
  2. Dental Officer Level 1 is a newly qualified employee who is a beginning practitioner developing their skills and competencies in dentistry. A Dental Officer level 2 is a general dental practitioner who regularly encounters, diagnoses and administers treatment for dental diseases and dental health problems of greater than usual difficulty. Progression to level 2 from level 1 is dependent upon having a minimum two years experience and successfully completing the Standard Dental Officers Skills Assessment conducted by the clinical supervisor.
  3. Utilise clinical tools, equipment and applications to ensure that the care provided is of a high professional standard. 
  4. Maintain accurate and appropriate clinical records, including paper based and electronic records. 
  5. Assist in the development of policies, procedures, standards and practices, quality activities and may participate in research activities as required. 
  6. Actively participate in approved oral health promotion and preventative programs and educate patients. under your care to maintain good oral health. 
  7. Communicate with patients/carers ensuring consistent care and maximised health outcomes. 
  8. Encourage good and positive working relationships with co-workers so that care is provided in a harmonious team environment.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Dental qualification eligible for registration as a dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a preventative/population health approach to patient care.
  3. Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality and abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct in line with prescribed NSW Health policies and procedures.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and sensitively with a wide range of individuals.
  5. Proficiency in the use of computer systems including electronic patient records and digital imaging.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters.
  8. Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances within the Health Service. Evidence of a current Class C drivers licence

 

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
