Be part of the dynamic and supportive Counselling Violence Prevention & Response Team in Child Youth & Family Services. The SafeWayz Coordinator will work with other violence abuse and neglect programs and counselling services, alongside strategic positions supporting the SESLHD response to prevention and response to violence , abuse and neglect. You will be based at Rockdale Community Health Centre with travel across SESLHD to other community health centres. Where you'll be working:
Population and Community Health (PaCH) is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
PaCH provides community health services that give care to individuals, families and carers, as well as population health services that focus on the whole community or key groups within the community.
PaCH's services are provided at the District's hospitals, community-based facilities including child and family health centres, community health centres and specialist clinics. We work with other service providers across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, including hospitals and mental health services.
The Role:
The Safe Wayz program coordinates an integrated response for children under the age of criminal responsibility (currently 10 years in NSW) with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours (PHSBs). Safe Wayz adopts a strength-based, family focused and culturally centred trauma-informed approach to working with children and families to help prevent behaviours from escalating.
This role will coordinate primary prevention initiatives, provide early support for children and families to address behaviours when they are first identified, and coordinate pathways into specialist counselling services for children and families who need them,consistent with NSW Health, SESLHD policies, procedures and standards. The role will include a clinical caseload and will coordinate cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal clinicians working with Aboriginal children and families.
This role includes responsibilities for consulting across SESLHD in the area of expertise, provision of supervision, leadership of quality improvement initiatives, leadership in evaluation and reporting on services, development of service improvements, development of education tools and the teaching of other health care colleagues, and students on clinical placement.

- Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award. Professional qualifications in Social Work (eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers AASW), or Senior Psychologist with a recognised 4 year degree in Psychology (with full registration with AHPRA), and at least 8 years’ post registration experience; or Clinical Psychologist with full registration with AHPRA and Endorsement in Clinical Psychology (or eligibility to progress to same), along with a minimum two-year full-time equivalent Master or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. Bachelor Degree in Counselling or Graduate Certificate in Human & Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma).
- Extensive post graduate experience in child centred, family focussed counselling, support and case management to address problematic or harmful sexual behaviours with young children and their carers.
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive counselling services to individuals and their families with a demonstrated understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
- Ability to apply independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a complex nature in combination with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a small therapeutic team.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice, and development of education tools or programs to support others in providing service excellence in addition to commitment to clinical and cultural supervision.
- Current drivers licence or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
