We are seeking casual coders who are detail-oriented, self-motivated, and can accurately analyse and abstract
 information for coding to join our high-quality performing team.

Where you'll be working

In this role, you will provide casual clinical coding service to the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District SESLHD)
 hospitals, such as Prince of Wales Hospital (Randwick), Royal Hospital for Women Randwick), Sydney Hospital Sydney
 Eye Hospital (Sydney), St George Hospital (Kogarah) and Sutherland Hospital (Caringbah)
You will be working with an expert team that is supportive, dedicated, and passionate about clinical coding. Flexible work practices are well
 established including working from home. SESLHD Coding Services provides ongoing education and quality programs for Coder's development. We continuously seek ways to provide Coders with the best access to quality documentation and tools to assist the team in achieving their best quality work. 

What you'll be doing

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

To provide high quality specialised clinical coding for SESLHD Hospitals by accurately translating inpatient episodes of care into code, using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Twelfth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) and the Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) to meet Activity Based Funding (ABF) targets, SESLHD/NSW Health Service reporting timeframes and research requirements.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  1. Successful completion of recognised courses in clinical coding (ICD-10-AM) and medical terminology, for Medical Records Administration, relevant tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management or equivalent experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM and high level proven knowledge of Australian Coding Standards.
  3. Practical knowledge and experience in current disease classification in a tertiary teaching hospital.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) as per Activity Based Funding (ABF) principles and application within the health system.
  5. Experience using 3M Codefinder and Patient Administration Systems/eMR.
  6. Demonstrated attention to detail and proven ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  7. Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work both in an unsupervised environment and within a team with excellent interpersonal skills.
