  • An eligibility list may be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.
  • This position is part time; however, job share arrangements may also be considered.
  • Please note this appointment is strictly for Monday and Tuesday

What you'll be doing
The orthoptist will be required to participate in clinical, educational and administrative activities that are required to provide an efficient and effective orthoptic service to children who attend the outpatient clinic at Westmead. They may be required to provide orthoptic services to outreach locations at Mt Druitt and Campbelltown. The orthoptist will be required to work as a member of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and patients
  1. Bachelor's Degree or Master's in Orthoptics with eligibility for membership of Orthoptics Australia and the Australian Orthoptic Board.
  2. Demonstrated keenness and the ability to work with families and children.
  3. Previous experience in a paediatric ophthalmic setting diagnosing, managing and assessing paediatric patients with a variety of ocular conditions.
  4. Experience working single handedly in clinics and managing patients with amblyopia.
  5. Ophthalmic experience performing and analysing tests such as OCT, visual fields and fundus photography.
  6. Ability and willingness to work independently but to seek guidance where appropriate
  7. Demonstrated willingness to work with other professionals as part of overall patient care, providing supervision to students, orthoptic colleagues and registrars.
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
