Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Cumberland and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing

The aim of the Needle and Syringe Program is to maintain and enhance the health of people who inject drugs. This is achieved by addressing a range of issues specific to the needs of this target population. This includes the provision of injecting drug equipment, brief interventions. In addition, education and skills development, the provision of welfare and referral as requested by the client, information access, advocacy, and other interventions which may enhance the physical and psychological wellbeing of individuals who may use this service.

  • The SHEO will manage staff in focus, ensuring regular supervision and access to professional development; respect and support colleagues, actively contribute to identifying and solving problems; mentor 
    inexperienced staff if required; participate in recruitment tasks as required.
  • Work within the WSLHD Needle and Syringe Program Team to provide a range of health care services for the prevention and care of blood borne viruses among injecting drug users. This position will participate in service delivery across the WSLHD NSP sites.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualification: Tertiary Qualification in Health, Community Services or equivalent

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated competencies and experience in a managerial role.
  2. Ability to undertake policy analysis, development and implementation.
  3. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, manage and evaluate sensitive health promotion strategies within the NSP program, to meet the needs of priority populations.
  4. Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  5. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health or related field.
  6. An understanding of Harm Minimisation
  7. Knowledge of blood borne viruses such as HIV, HCV and HBV
  8. An ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel to different WSLHD sites or external facilities as required.
