NBMLHD’s Population Health Division is responsible for addressing primary and secondary disease prevention within the local community through Health Promotion, HIV and Related Programs Multicultural Health. Our work is delivered through individual service delivery, Population level health promotion programs and capacity building initiates to members of priority populations on priority issues.

An exciting Permanent Full time opportunity is now available for a Senior Health Education Officer to join the team located at our Lemongrove Campus, Penrith.

Your role as the Early Years, School Years Senior Health Education Officer (SHEO) is to improve the health of the Nepean, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions by coordinating the delivery of health promotion programs and activities. 
 
This position is accountable for:
  • Developing, implementing, evaluating and reporting on health promotion programs and activities
  • Meeting program targets and KPIs set by Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) and the NSW Ministry of Health’s Centre for Population Health
  • Managing the day-to-day supervision of the program delivery staff.
The Early Years, School Years SHEO also works closely with staff within the Health Promotion service,  Population Health Division, and relevant teams across NBMLHD. Where required, this may involve developing new approaches and programs of work to address emerging health needs.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, such as health promotion, population health, education, allied health and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  2. Demonstrated high level knowledge, understanding and experience addressing the social determinants of health and the overall health needs of populations
  3. Demonstrated experience in project and program planning and management, particularly in relation to coordinating and recruiting participants to community healthy lifestyle groups and programs.
  4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation, communication and motivational skills, which show a capacity to build achieving teams with a focus on high quality outcomes.
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with community, government, non-government and business organisations to achieve outcomes in health promotion.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead people and work both independently and as part of a team.
  7. Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills.
  8. Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
