Are you looking to build your career in a dynamic and supportive hospital pharmacy team? We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Assistant/Technician to join the Pharmacy Department at St George Hospital.

In this role, you will work closely with pharmacists and other team members to support and enhance pharmacy services provided to patients. This includes assisting in a variety of operational areas such as the dispensary, outpatient pharmacy, stores, and cancer care centre. You’ll also contribute to advanced practice roles, helping to streamline workflows and allowing pharmacists to focus on clinical services.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Dispensing and distribution of medications to patients
  • Clinical support on wards, collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient care
  • Sterile manufacturing duties, including cytotoxic preparations
  • Stock management for clinical trials, compassionate/SAS access medications, and controlled drugs
  • Reception duties, ensuring smooth patient interaction and service
  • Participating in departmental quality and research activities to enhance pharmacy services
  • Ensuring compliance with national and state guidelines, local policies, and Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards

Selection Criteria

1. Recognised qualifications in the field or qualifications deemed by the employer to be equivalent (as per award) will enable appointment as a Pharmacy Assistant Grade 2 or as a Pharmacy Technician Grade 1 or 2.
2. Demonstrated understanding and experience of dispensing/issuing of pharmaceuticals in a hospital or community pharmacy setting or equivalent experience.
3. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
4. Experience with information technology and familiarity with the use of pharmacy software eg iPharmacy system.
5. Good verbal and written communication skills.
6. Ability to understand and adhere to all legislative requirements.
7. Attention to detail and accuracy in undertaking all tasks.
8. Ability to work as part of a team.
