The Department of Oral Restorative Sciences incorporates the disciplines of endodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics. The department provides state of the art clinical care to patients of WSLHD as being a tertiary referral centre for the state of NSW. In addition, it also provides supervision of Doctor of Clinical Dentistry students in the disciplines of endodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics while also supporting both specialty and general practice within the facility.

Successful applicant will be an essential member of the Periodontic multidisciplinary team providing clinical leadership and promoting patient safety and quality in the department of Oral Restorative Sciences.

The position provides contemporary comprehensive specialist periodontic services throughout the hospital for optimal patient outcomes. Periodontic treatment will be provided to eligible adults and children from NSW. This will involve the delivery of care by way of outpatient clinics that best meets clinical needs and requirements of the department and may involve treatment under sedation and general anaesthetic.

 

This role may include graduate and postgraduate teaching if time permits, research and supervision particularly to junior registrars and dental officer staff.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Employees Dental Officers (State) Award.

    Selection Criteria

     

    ·         Possess or be eligible for registration with the Dental Board of Australia as a Specialist or equivalent as provided in the Health Employees Dental Officers (State) Award. Must have or be eligible for Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

    ·         Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty of Periodontics.

    ·         Sound clinical knowledge in Periodontics demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position

    ·         Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Dental Specialist including:

    o    Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.

    o    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

    o    Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.

    o    Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.

    o    Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.

    ·         Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.

    ·         Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:

    o    Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.

    o    commitment to self -care and personal development.
