Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Blacktown Hospital.

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

 

Applicants will have the following:

·     Knowledge and expertise in the management of high risk and complex pregnancies, above the level of the generalist O&G specialist.

·     Obstetrics ultrasound skills above the level of the generalist O&G specialist.

·     Demonstrated commitment to provision of high quality pregnancy care for women with a background of disadvantage and deprivation.

 

The Blacktown OG Department is a busy Level 5 Maternity Unit currently providing services for close to 4000 deliveries per year. The Outpatient Maternity and Acute Birthing services are supported by a Gynaecological Service with several weekly clinics and daily operating lists.

 

The current senior staffing profile is a combination of Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers. It is a RANZCOG accredited training site.

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at UWS. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship of the appointee, and will be held only during the tenure of the WSLHD appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters.

 

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and limited clinical privileges across other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

·     Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

·    Sound clinical knowledge in Obstetrics and Gynaecology which is demonstrated   through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

·      Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

o  High level interpersonal and communication skills.

o  Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

o  Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

o  Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

·         Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

·         Possession of, or in the process of acquiring a DDU (Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound) or comparable qualification.
