An opportunity exists to apply for the position of SESLHD Peer Learning Advisor, Recovery and Wellbeing College.

If you have experience working as a mental health peer worker and interested in broadening your peer work within a supportive,  educational setting, this could be an exciting opportunity for you.

The college strongly values lived experience, and leads practices supporting self-determination, self-advocacy,  co production,  and hope.

The Recovery and Wellbeing College is an innovative Mental Health program, aiming to provide recovery-oriented adult education and individual learning support to students, carers, staff,  and the general community.

The Peer Learning Advisor will draw upon their lived experience of mental health concerns, and their personal recovery journey to work alongside students of the Recovery and Wellbeing College and support them with their participation in the college. The Peer Learning Advisor has awareness of college values, promotes college courses, and supports students to match suitable courses to their goals via student learning plans, providing support throughout the student learning journey. 

The Peer Learning Advisor works in collaboration with lived experience and clinical educators to co-write and co-facilitate a range of recovery orientated courses for consumers, carers, and staff of the SESLHD mental health services.

Selection criteria:

  1. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain, with experience as a lived experience peer worker within Mental Health Services including personal lived experience as a consumer of mental health services, with demonstrated ability to utilise this experience in providing educational support to groups or individuals. For Graduate Health Education Officer, additional relevant health or education degree required.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of mental health Recovery Framework, with experience in developing and co delivering recovery-oriented education to people utilising mental health services.
  3. Demonstrated experience in participating in health promotion events, projects or activities that promote mental health education, wellbeing, and awareness of services.
  4. Demonstrated organisational skills, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including advocacy, conflict resolution.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of current State and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
  7. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
