About the role:

We are looking for a dedicated, innovative, and detail-oriented Nurse Educator with a passion for improving healthcare outcomes.

This role plays a pivotal role in developing clinical guidelines and models of care documentation in collaboration with teams across SCHN and JHCH. Reporting to the Director of Nursing (DON) at JHCH, you’ll work closely with the Sydney-based Nurse Educator, who works two days a week, to ensure the service meets the highest standards of care.

You will collaborate with a passionate, forward-thinking team that values innovation and continuous improvement. Though you will often work autonomously, you'll have strong support from the Sydney-based Nurse Educator and other stakeholders across the SCHN and JHCH sites.

In this role, you will develop and implement clinical guidelines and models of care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to drive best practices. As a clinical leader, you will support the growth of this state-wide service while engaging with stakeholders to ensure alignment with organisational goals. This position is 1 day per week, with an 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM shift that can be negotiated to suit your lifestyle.

Support in this role is provided by the Director of Nursing, Ambulatory Care manager and the Nurse Educator in the SCHN along with the nurse education team at the JHCH. We are committed to setting you up for success in this role. A comprehensive orientation to the NSW Paediatric Virtual Urgent Care Service will be provided, ensuring you have the knowledge, tools, and support needed to excel. This orientation will familiarize you with the service’s processes, technologies, and team dynamics, empowering you to make a meaningful contribution from the start.

If the below sounds like you we’d LOVE to see you apply!

  • You have strong communication skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across different locations.
  • You have leadership ability, confidently guiding others and taking ownership of developing clinical guidelines and care models.
  • You are adaptable, capable of navigating the dynamic nature of a virtual care environment.
  • You are committed to excellence, focused on achieving the highest standards in paediatric care delivery.
  • You are a team player, thriving in a collaborative culture while also being capable of working independently.

Where you’ll be working:

The NSW Paediatric Virtual Urgent Care Service is an innovative, state-wide initiative designed to provide urgent care for children across New South Wales through telehealth. With two key sites—Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) and John Hunter Children’s Hospital (JHCH)—this service ensures families have access to expert paediatric care without leaving their homes.

Your role will be based in Newcastle at the Charlestown Sky Central building, where you'll collaborate with a dynamic team shaping the future of paediatric virtual care. Located in the modern Charlestown Sky Central building, our facility offers a professional and comfortable environment tailored for collaboration and innovation. Parking is hassle-free, with free parking available close by, making your commute stress-free. We understand the importance of work-life balance, and some work-from-home flexibility can also be considered for this role.
