New Street Counsellor - Identified
Support Aboriginal children through healing-focused, culturally safe care - restoring wellbeing, identity, and strong community ties
Remuneration: $62,512 – $147,108 per annum (dependent on qualifications) + superannuation + salary packaging

This is a position identified for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people on the basis of a genuine occupational qualification under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status in addition to addressing the selection criteria.
Our early intervention approach focuses on holistic outcomes, including ceasing harmful behaviours, strengthening cultural identity, and fostering community connections. Aboriginal children in out-of-home care are prioritised, and cultural safety is at the heart of our work.
In this role, you will be well supported by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal colleagues. Together, we provide coordinated and culturally embedded care that makes a lasting difference. Most clients receive medium to long-term support, averaging between 6 months and 2 years.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering assessment, counselling, and case coordination in partnership with another clinician.
- Providing cultural advice and consultation to ensure our service embeds Aboriginal ways of working and cultural safety.
- Engaging with Aboriginal communities and services to support strong, culturally appropriate care.
- Contributing to service development initiatives that improve cultural responsiveness.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work with eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or bachelor degree or higher in Psychology with current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia or bachelor degree or higher in Counselling with registration with the appropriate professional body.
Additional Information:
- To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable local candidate is identified for the position; in this instance, you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
