The Opportunity

The Hunter Prosthetics & Orthotics Service (HPOS) new-graduate position is a 12-month full-time clinical role designed to support a new graduate to launch their career within P&O and develop their professional identity. The program provides the successful applicant with individual support to optimise learning and career opportunities. You will have onsite access to a clinical supervisor who will work with you and support you to grow your clinical and professional skills.

As a new graduate, you will spend approximately 6 months working with the Prosthetics team and 6 months working with the Orthotics team under supervision of senior team members.

The successful applicant will engage in the provision of prosthetic and orthotic services on site at HPOS. You will be involved in performing diagnostic and clinical examinations, developing rehabilitation treatment plans as well as consulting, manufacturing, repairing and fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices. You will also have a valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel to outreach clinics in Port Macquarie.

HPOS is part of HealthShare NSW and is located on the John Hunter Hospital Campus - the tertiary referral centre for the Hunter and Northern NSW regions. Providing care to a range of Prosthetic and Orthotic patients, the HPOS team consists of 11 clinical, 3 technical and 2 administrative support positions. The team cares deeply about the positive patient care-experience, is passionate about assisting our clients and their families to achieve desired life goals and getting them ‘moving through life’.

HPOS is an on-site manufacturing department with our own 3D scanning capability as well as access to local 3D printing services.

HPOS is a registered NDIS provider and cares for patients funded through EnableNSW, HNELHD as well as other private and not-for-profit entities.

The Newcastle region is the second-most-populated region in NSW and Australia’s second oldest city. Well known for our beaches, harbour and vineyards within an hour’s drive, having a population of around half a million people means our city is more slowly paced than the capital cities but still has a diverse range of culture, secret hipster-friendly nightspots and a fantastic range of restaurants.
