Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be located at the Nepean Blue Mountains Public Health Unit located in Penrith.

 

The Public Health Staff Specialist will provide high level specialist expertise and public health management skills in health protection in NBMLHD and will be required to participate in the on-call roster as required. At times the Director of Public Health is on leave, the position will act as Director of Public Health.

Selection Criteria

 

  1. Current medical practitioner registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine as per the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
  2. High level expertise in communicable disease control, including infection control, immunisation, environmental health, epidemiology, and management of public health disasters.
  3. Extensive experience in the application of public health methods, including epidemiological surveillance and evidence-based management, to complex public health issues.
  4. Demonstrable experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs.
  5. Demonstrated effectiveness in establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships to achieve public health goals.
  6. Thorough understanding of the application of relevant public health legislation and disaster management protocols.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of reports, correspondence, and funding proposals.
  8. Demonstrated effective leadership skills in public health setting including media management skills.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award.
